Aristocrat Leisure Takes the Next Step
For those of us who love gaming, this news will come as an exciting bonus. Aristocrat Leisure has been reinventing itself in exciting ways. Their goal to diversify has seen them creating more online games, more content and many more types of digital transactions to the tune of a 17% increase in their profit margin just in the first three months of 2019.
Big Fish and Disney
While before, Aristocrat was only looking at social casino aspects in a market of less than US$2bn, they’ve since bought Plarium and Big Fish and are now looking at a US$32bn market according to the company. They first bought Big Fish in January 2018, which cost them $1.3 billion and allowed them to have access to over 12 million users a month. They are now part of the excitement with the Big Fish announcement that they would be collaborating with Disney and plan to develop a Toy Story game called Toy Story Drop. This will be a puzzle adventure game accessible to mobile users. As Jeff Karp, the managing director and president of Big Fish Games explained, “Our talented studios and developers have been perfecting games in the match-3 space for over a decade. We couldn’t be happier to introduce the world to the new and challenging puzzles in Toy Story Drop! ahead of the anticipated next instalment in the film series.”
The new game will involve strategic thinking and logic games to challenge the brain, which is certainly an exciting opportunity and will have special “hazards” as they call them that other card games don’t employ. Certainly, a good move on the part of Aristocrat to hook its star to Big Fish and to be part of this venture. And both a business worth watching, and a new game worth anticipating.
